The shock absorber is an automotive part belonging to the suspension system of a car. It is necessary for controlling the shocks and vibration as a vehicle moves over rough surfaces. The shock absorber is required to control the vertical oscillations of the wheel and vehicle body whenever a bump or dip is encountered. It achieves this by dissipating energy – converting kinetic energy into heat energy and getting rid of it. The smoothness of the ride is increased due to the reduction of jolts and this makes driving more pleasant for the passengers. Also, they are important for the vehicle handling. They improves the grip and contact of the tires with the surface of the road while the vehicle is accelerating, decelerating or cornering. For every make and model of car a specific type of shock absorber is made.
