Just like every other automobile component, an alternator has to be tightened with great care and attention. First, the battery terminal of the vehicle needs to be disconnected to prevent any electrical hazards. The old unit is then disconnected by untangling the battery cables, unscrewing the bolts, and removing the drive belt. The new alternator is now sold with it pre-installed to the engine plus secured within the brackets using the available bolts. Some reasonable static tension is also put on the drive belt to ensure that the engine can drive the alternator and not the other way around. The remaining wires are connected along with the battery, and the vehicle is finally started to check that the alternator activates the battery and that all systems within the automobile are operational.
